Sometimes, I see a gemstone and immediately see a picture within it and that's exactly what happened with this beautiful blue Lace Agate. It immediately took me to a hazy day by the coast. The muted blues and greys of the stone reminded me of the bands of clouds the you see layering through the sky right down to the horizon. Then as the bands merge in to milky translucency I see the shoreline, muted yellow, just as the sand actually is after being saturated by early morning drizzle!
The stone, which is ever so slightly an irregular oval shape has been encased in silver in a bezel style setting, measuring 4.1cm (41mm) x 3.1cm (31mm). The outer edges and back of the setting have been finished with a frosted texture, reminiscent of wet sand. Two small hoops fix the stone to a 16 inch belcher style chain that complements the size and weight of the stone.
In this case, the setting that the stone sits in and chain is purely a frame, that outlines a picture that I saw in my mind - wearable artwork in many ways!!
The necklace has a full UK hallmark, including my own makers mark.
Agate stones come in many colours with naturally formed patterns, each unique, each one of a kind, however all are said to enhance creativity, intellect and improve self-confidence.
