At the beginning of summer each year, the small yet mighty House Martins and Swallows visit Cornwall. For me, it signifies the beginning of summer and I just love to watch these tiny birds work furiously to set up 'camp' for the summer months. The aerobatic display they put on whilst foraging for food and building materials is hypnotic! It's these displays that inspired this necklace design!
This is a delicate silver y style necklace featuring the silhouette of the flying House Martin. Two of the silhouettes, measuring aprox 2.5cm (25mm) at their widest point, are attached either side of the main chain. They are attached at irregular angles to depict the irregularities of their aerobatic flying. The third silhouette, is slightly larger measuring aprox 3cm (30mm) and is attached at the bottom of the y. This allows it to 'swing' independently, again depicting the aerobatic flying dance that the birds perform. All 3 silhouettes are finished with a light brushed texture.
The necklace is presented on a trace style chain. The chain length, excluding the hang of the y is aprox 20 inches, (this could be made 18inches on request) this includes the 2 sterling silver bird silhouettes. The hanging bottom of the y measures aprox 2 inches, including the larger sterling silver silhouette.
This is a delicate necklace that tells the story of summer. It's a beautiful gift suitable for many occasions and a classic, timeless design.
